Chapter 4 - The Poisoned Mother

To understand the absolute, apocalyptic horror currently freezing the blood in Damian’s veins, one had to look at the master suite upstairs.

For the last three months, Damian’s beautiful wife, Elena, had been battling a severe but highly treatable autoimmune flare-up. The glossy blue capsules from the specialty pharmacy were literally keeping her organs from shutting down.

But over the last three days, Elena had rapidly, terrifyingly deteriorated.

She had slipped into a deep, unresponsive fever. The private doctors were completely baffled, desperately running blood tests to figure out why the medication was suddenly failing. Damian had spent the last seventy-two hours sitting by her bedside, weeping silently, genuinely believing he was going to lose the love of his life.

He looked down at the chalky white pill resting in his palm.

Alina hadn't just been withholding Elena’s medication. The maid had been actively, maliciously feeding her a highly toxic, unregulated industrial muscle relaxant. Every single time Alina brought a glass of water and a pill to the master suite, she was systematically, intentionally poisoning Damian’s wife.

"You were murdering her," Damian choked out, the crushing magnitude of the betrayal hitting him with the physical force of a freight train.
