Chapter 4 - The Vicious Woman

The woman marched aggressively toward Lily, completely ignoring the massive man in the black suit approaching her.

"I told you to keep begging by the pond!" she roared, raising the leather belt. "You think you can just play in the grass?!"

Before she could take another step toward the terrified child, Vincent seamlessly stepped directly into her path, forming an impenetrable, muscular wall of black wool.

The woman crashed to a halt. She looked up at Vincent, her arrogant, toxic sneer faltering for a fraction of a second when she saw the heavy tattoos on his neck.

"Move out of the way, buddy," she snapped impatiently. "That's my kid. She's throwing a tantrum."

Vincent smiled—a cold, merciless, cinematic smile that sent a shiver down her spine.

"She doesn't look like your kid," Vincent stated flawlessly, entirely devoid of human empathy. "She looks like a child who was abducted to run a street begging scam."

The woman’s face violently drained of all color. She realized she wasn't talking to a gullible suburban dad.

"You don't know what you're talking about," she hissed, taking a nervous step backward toward her van. "Mind your own business before you get hurt."

"I am making it my business," Vincent replied quietly.
