Chapter 6 - The Hidden Cargo

One of the enforcers ripped the back doors of the rusty van completely open.
Vincent’s blood turned to absolute ice. The cinematic realization crashed over him with the force of a nuclear bomb.
Sitting in the dark, filthy back of the van weren't just stolen electronics or drugs. There were four more terrified, dirty children huddled together in the corner. They were all wearing oversized, tattered clothes, clearly part of a highly organized, malicious street-begging syndicate that preyed on abducted and undocumented children.
The woman pinned against the van hyperventilated. She knew she was completely, inescapably ruined.
"They aren't mine!" she shrieked like a feral banshee, desperately trying to save her own pathetic life. "I just work for a guy named Russo! He pays me to watch them! He's the one who takes them!"
Vincent’s jaw clenched. His dark eyes radiated pure, demonic wrath.
He knew exactly who Russo was. Russo was a low-level, cowardly rival criminal who had been trying to expand his territory into Vincent’s city.
"Russo runs a child trafficking ring in my city," Vincent whispered lethally, the devastating reality settling heavily into his bones.
He turned his intense gaze back to the woman.
