Chapter 4 - The Sapphire Necklace

The warm ambient lighting of the penthouse suddenly felt incredibly tense.
"Three months?" Alessandro repeated, his heavy brow furrowing in confusion. "How did you manage to hide a crying infant in my penthouse for ninety days?"
"I kept her in the laundry room," Elena sobbed, still kneeling on the marble floor. "I gave her sleeping medicine when you were home so she wouldn't cry. I had nowhere else to go! Her father is a monster! He swore he would kill us both if I ever left him!"
Alessandro’s expression hardened. He despised men who abused women and children.
But as he looked down at the tiny, innocent baby resting against his chest, something completely caught his eye. Mia was still clutching his silk tie, but her pink onesie had slipped slightly down her shoulder.
Resting around the eight-month-old's tiny neck was a very specific, highly unique piece of jewelry.
It was a delicate silver chain holding a custom-cut, deep blue sapphire pendant surrounded by tiny diamonds. Alessandro physically stopped breathing. The air in the massive office was completely sucked out. He didn't just recognize the necklace. He was the one who had bought it.
