Chapter 3 - The Lethal Realization

A tight, cinematic close-up captured the Boss’s face.
The cold, ruthless, and terrifying demeanor of the untouchable mafia king completely, violently shattered into a million pieces. The color drained slightly from his handsome face as he looked from the brave little girl to the bruised, weeping mother on the floor.
He didn't yell. He didn't order his heavily armed guards to drag them away.
A deep, chilling, and horrifying realization violently washed over his highly tactical mind.
"No," the Boss whispered, his voice dropping into a low, incredibly hollow register.
The cinematic realism of the moment was completely breathtaking. The Boss hadn't hit Maya. He had found her cowering on the floor of the foyer just two minutes ago, bleeding and bruised. He had been aggressively demanding to know who had breached his impenetrable security to assault his staff.
But Maya had refused to speak, utterly paralyzed by sheer, unadulterated terror.
The Boss realized instantly that Maya wasn't afraid of a random intruder. She was terrified of someone who was currently standing inside the mansion. She was terrified of someone who had the power to kill her and her daughter if she told the truth.
The Boss slowly backed away from the mother and child, his dark eyes sweeping across the massive foyer.
