Chapter 4 - The Traitor's Panic

The Boss’s lethal, highly perceptive eyes locked onto one specific man in the back row of his security detail.

It was Leo, a massive, heavily muscled enforcer who had been serving the family for three years.

As the Boss stared at him, Leo’s confident, arrogant posture visibly faltered. A drop of cold sweat rolled down the enforcer's temple. He quickly looked away, trying to blend in with the other guards, but his massive hands were trembling slightly against his weapon.

The Boss didn't need a verbal confession. He was a predator, and he smelled the overwhelming stench of guilt and fear.

"Take the child to the kitchen," the Boss commanded smoothly, completely turning his back on Leo and looking at a different, highly trusted guard. "Get her some ice cream. Do not let her out of your sight."

Maya panicked, instinctively wrapping her arms tightly around Lily. "No! Please! Don't take her!"

"She is safe, Maya," the Boss promised, his voice carrying a fierce, unexpected, and completely unbreakable protective warmth. "I swear it on my life."

Maya looked into the dark eyes of the mafia king. She didn't see a monster. She saw a man who was about to execute absolute, brutal justice on her behalf. She slowly released her grip, letting the trusted guard gently guide the brave little girl out of the dangerous foyer.
