Chapter 5 - The Ambush

The Boss stood in the center of the grand foyer, adjusting the cuffs of his dark suit. He didn't pull a weapon. He didn't scream at his traitorous guard. The absolute, terrifying restraint he showed was infinitely more dangerous than a violent outburst.
"Leo," the Boss stated quietly, entirely devoid of human empathy for the man. "Step forward."
Leo swallowed hard, his face turning the color of wet chalk. He slowly stepped out of the line of guards, walking nervously toward the center of the room.
"Yes, Boss?" Leo stammered, trying desperately to maintain his tough, enforcer facade.
"You were on perimeter duty this morning," the Boss noted flawlessly, pacing slowly around the massive man like a shark circling a bleeding seal. "Did you see anyone breach the gates? Anyone who could have assaulted my head maid?"
"No, sir," Leo lied smoothly, his eyes darting toward the front doors. "The perimeter was completely clear. It must have been a domestic issue. Maybe her ex-husband."
Maya let out a sharp, breathless gasp from the floor, absolutely terrified by the lie.
The Boss completely stopped pacing. He stood directly behind Leo.
"Her ex-husband has been dead for two years," the Boss whispered lethally, right into the enforcer's ear.

Leo stopped breathing. The air in his lungs violently turned to absolute ice.
