Chapter 6 - The Hidden Truth

Adrien didn't pull out a three-million-dollar diamond necklace.
He pulled out a small, sleek black digital audio recorder. It was the exact model Adrien used in his home office to dictate encrypted syndicate contracts.
"What is this?" Adrien asked, his brow furrowing as he looked at the device.
Victoria took a sudden, frantic step backward, her high heels crunching loudly in the gravel. All the color violently drained from her face, leaving her looking like a terrified ghost.
"Give that to me!" Victoria panicked, completely losing her elegant composure. She lunged forward, desperately trying to snatch the recorder from his hands.
Adrien easily sidestepped her, raising the device out of her reach. His dark, observant eyes locked onto his fiancée's terrified face. The puzzle pieces were rapidly snapping together in his brilliant, tactical mind.
"I didn't steal the diamonds, Adrien," Elena said, her voice finally steadying with immense, protective bravery. "I found them stuffed in my pillowcase this morning. I knew she was trying to frame me. I left them on her bathroom vanity."
Victoria hyperventilated. "She's insane! She's making this up!"
"But I was in your home office, Adrien," Elena confessed, looking up at him. "I went in there to dust the bookshelves. The door was cracked open. Victoria was inside, talking on her burner phone. I knew I couldn't stop her alone. So I hit record on your desk dictation machine."
Adrien’s expression completely hardened. The vulnerable, pleading father vanished into thin air. The ruthless, terrifying Mafia Boss was officially awake.
