Chapter 7 - The Audio Confession

A sharp hiss of static echoed from the small speaker, followed instantly by Victoria’s crystal-clear voice playing into the quiet driveway.

"I don't care how you do it, just make it look like an accident," Victoria’s recorded voice sneered. "The Barone cartel wants Adrien distracted. If the kid is out of the picture, Adrien will completely fall apart. He'll surrender the waterfront territory to you without a fight."

A deep, gravelly voice answered on the other end of the recording. "What about the nanny?"

"Kill her too," Victoria’s audio played back, dripping with cold-blooded malice. "She’s constantly hovering over the brat. Just run their car off the road on the way to school tomorrow. Once the boy is dead, I will be the only family Adrien has left. He will sign everything over to me."

The recording clicked off.

The silence that followed was absolute, suffocating, and dripping with imminent violence.

The bodyguard, Marcus, silently unclipped the holster of his weapon, stepping directly in front of the estate gates to ensure nobody left.

Adrien stood perfectly still in the bright sunlight. The cinematic realism of his reaction was utterly terrifying. He didn't scream. He didn't throw the recorder. He slowly, methodically turned his head to look at the woman he was supposed to marry.

"You sold my son to the Barones," Adrien whispered, his voice a low, demonic rumble that shook the very foundation of the mansion.
