Chapter 2 - The Erased Agony

The smartphone slipped from Ethan’s trembling fingers, clattering loudly against the cold marble floor.

He didn't pick it up. He slowly walked over to the single black suitcase abandoned by the staircase. He unzipped it, expecting to find clothes she had forgotten. Instead, the suitcase was overflowing with every single piece of diamond jewelry, every designer watch, and every black card he had ever given her during their two-year marriage. Claire had left with absolutely nothing but the clothes on her back.

Ethan dropped to his knees. His chest heaved as panic finally hijacked his nervous system.

He lunged for his phone on the floor, his thumbs flying aggressively across the screen to open his recent call logs. The screen was completely blank. There were no missed calls from his wife.

But Ethan was a syndicate boss; he didn't trust the surface. He immediately opened the encrypted cellular provider portal on his device, bypassing the physical phone logs to see the raw network data.

The data loaded, and all the air was violently sucked out of Ethan’s lungs.

Over the past four days—while he was lounging on a private beach in Cabo with his mistress, Vanessa—Claire had called his number exactly seventy-four times. Seventy-four frantic, desperate cries for her husband while she sat in a sterile hospital room, watching the only family she had left slowly slip away.

Ethan remembered leaving his phone on the hotel nightstand. He remembered Vanessa explicitly telling him to disconnect from his Chicago business and focus entirely on her.

👉 Ethan realized his mistress had purposely deleted every single agonizing cry for help, and the mafia boss was about to unleash absolute hell.
