Chapter 3 - The Mistress’s Mistake

The heavy mahogany doors of the mansion’s grand study swung open an hour later.

Vanessa walked in, wearing a sleek crimson designer dress and a victorious, arrogant smirk. She had just received word from the perimeter guards that Claire had officially vacated the premises. Vanessa thought she had finally won. She thought she was stepping into the mansion to claim her throne as the new queen of the Chicago syndicate.

"Ethan, darling," Vanessa cooed, walking toward the large oak desk. "I heard the good news. We don't have to hide anymore."

Ethan sat behind the desk. He didn't look angry. He looked entirely hollowed out, a terrifying, dead calm radiating from his sharp masculine features.

He picked up a printed stack of cellular data logs and tossed it across the polished wood.

"Seventy-four calls," Ethan said, his voice dropping into a lethal, demonic whisper that made the temperature in the study instantly plummet. "My wife was burying her father in the freezing rain, begging for her husband. And you deleted every single notification while I was asleep."

Vanessa’s smirk completely collapsed. The color drained from her perfectly contoured face as she looked at the papers.

"Ethan... she was just trying to ruin our trip!" Vanessa stammered, frantically taking a step backward. "She was just whining! You told me you were tired of her drama!"

Ethan slowly stood up. The massive, dark tattoos on his neck and chest seemed to absorb the light in the room.

👉 Vanessa thought she could manipulate the most dangerous man in the city, but her brutal, unforgiving punishment had already been finalized.
