"She wasn't whining," Ethan stated coldly, stepping around the desk. "She was breaking. And you made sure she broke completely alone."

Vanessa trembled violently, tears of sheer terror welling in her eyes. "Please, Ethan! I did it for us! I love you!"

"You love my money," Ethan corrected, his eyes devoid of any human empathy. "And as of this exact second, you have absolutely none of it."

He didn't raise his hand to strike her. He didn't need to. Ethan pressed a button on his intercom, and two towering, elite syndicate enforcers immediately stepped into the study.

"Take her keys," Ethan commanded, his voice echoing with absolute, uncompromising finality. "Evict her from the luxury penthouse I bought her. Seize the cars, freeze the credit lines, and strip her of her security detail. Throw her out onto the street with nothing but the dress she's wearing."

"No! Ethan, you can't do this to me!" Vanessa shrieked, thrashing wildly as the massive men grabbed her by the arms.

"If I ever see your face in Chicago again," Ethan warned, turning his back on her entirely, "I will make sure you don't leave breathing."
