Chapter 5 - The Seattle Rain

The cold, refreshing rain of Seattle fell heavily against the concrete of the private airfield.

Claire stepped off the tarmac, wearing a simple beige trench coat. Her face was pale and exhausted, but the heavy, suffocating anxiety that had plagued her for two years in the Chicago mafia mansion was completely gone.

She held a beautiful, polished wooden urn tightly against her chest.

For the first time in days, Claire didn't cry. The tears had entirely dried up in that lonely hospital room when she realized the man who promised to protect her was ignoring her calls to sleep with another woman. The betrayal had burned away all her fear, leaving behind a profound, unbreakable titanium resolve.

A sleek black town car pulled up to the curb. The driver, a sharp man in a dark suit, immediately stepped out and opened the rear door for her, bowing his head in deep respect.

"Welcome home, Miss Claire," the driver said quietly. "The board is waiting for you."
