Chapter 4 - The Mastermind's Panic

Vincent froze, utterly bewildered. He had spent three years mourning her. He had burned down half the city to avenge her. Why was she looking at him like he was the enemy?
"Anna, it's me," Vincent pleaded, holding his hands up in surrender, completely ignoring the hundreds of elite guests staring at them. "I thought you were dead. I thought they killed you."
Before Anna could answer, the sharp clicking of high heels echoed across the marble.
Sophia pushed through the crowd, her dark blue sequined dress glittering. When she saw Anna standing there, alive and holding a child, all the color violently drained from Sophia’s flawless face. She looked like she had just seen a demon crawl out of hell.
"Oh my god," Sophia gasped, her voice trembling with absolute, paralyzing panic. She frantically grabbed Vincent’s arm. "Vincent, get away from her! That's an imposter! It’s a setup by the Barone family to mess with your head! Security!"
Anna stared at Sophia. A dark, bitter smirk touched her lips.
"I'm not an imposter, Sophia," Anna stated coldly, her voice ringing clear through the silent ballroom. "But you look exactly as terrified as you did the night you locked the garage door."
The entire ballroom went dead silent.
Vincent slowly turned his head to look at his fiancée.
"The garage door?" Vincent repeated, his brilliant, calculating mafia instincts suddenly snapping to attention. "What is she talking about, Sophia?"
