Chapter 9 - The Father's Redemption

The grand ballroom fell completely silent. The wealthy guests were too terrified to even breathe.
Vincent stood perfectly still for a moment, the dark, violent energy slowly leaving his broad shoulders. He took a deep, shuddering breath, adjusting his black suit. The terrifying syndicate boss vanished into thin air, leaving only a broken, desperate man behind.
He turned around and slowly walked back toward Anna.
Anna was still clutching their son tightly, her chest heaving, tears of pure shock and relief streaming down her beautiful face. She had finally realized the truth. Vincent hadn't ordered the hit. He had been a victim of Sophia’s twisted game, just like she was.
Vincent didn't stand over her. He didn't demand she come home.
He completely ignored his tailored suit and the hundreds of people watching him. Vincent dropped to both knees on the hard marble floor, bringing himself right to eye level with his three-year-old son.
"Anna," Vincent wept, genuine, hot tears finally spilling from his intense eyes. "I am so incredibly sorry. I failed to protect you. I let a monster into our home, and it cost me everything I ever loved."
He looked at the little boy in the tuxedo. The child stared back with Vincent’s exact dark eyes, curious and entirely innocent.
