Chapter 7 - The Undeniable Proof

Anna held the small silver object up under the bright crystal chandeliers.
It wasn't a USB drive. It wasn't a piece of paper. It was a massive, custom-made diamond and sapphire earring.
Vincent’s blood turned to absolute, freezing ice. He recognized that earring instantly.
"When I ran from the garage," Anna said smoothly, "Sophia tried to grab me. We struggled. I ripped this out of her ear before I escaped into the alley. The police never found the matching one in the wreckage, did they, Vincent?"
Vincent slowly turned his head to look at Sophia.
Sophia’s right hand instinctively, immediately flew up to touch her right earlobe—a subconscious gesture of phantom pain. She had always worn her hair down over her right ear since the explosion, claiming it was a new style.
The cinematic, lethal realization crashed over Vincent. The woman he had mourning with, the woman he was about to marry, had orchestrated the murder of his wife and unborn son out of pure, unadulterated jealousy.
"Vincent, please," Sophia whispered, her face completely drained of color as she backed away. The sophisticated high-society mask shattered, leaving a pathetic, cornered coward in its place. "I did it for us! She was making you soft! I am the one who belongs by your side!"
Vincent didn't yell. The terrifying, cold restraint of his mafia persona returned, darker and more violent than ever before.
