Chapter 8 - The Stripping of the Queen

"You took three years of my life," Vincent whispered. His voice didn't echo, but the deadly quiet of his tone terrified everyone in the ballroom.
"I can be a good wife!" Sophia sobbed hysterically, dropping to her knees on the marble floor. She crawled toward him, reaching for his polished shoes. "I managed your empire! I loved you!"
"You love power," Vincent replied, completely devoid of human empathy.
He looked down at the massive, five-carat diamond engagement ring sparkling on her finger. With a sudden, blinding speed, Vincent reached down and violently grabbed her hand. He didn't care about being gentle. He ripped the ring right off her finger, leaving a raw red mark on her skin.
Sophia shrieked as the symbol of her stolen wealth and status was ripped away.
"Security," Vincent commanded.
Instantly, four massive, heavily armed syndicate bodyguards stepped out from the shadows of the ballroom, completely surrounding the weeping woman on the floor.
"Take her to the warehouse," Vincent ordered, his dark eyes absolutely merciless. "Strip her offshore accounts. Transfer every single dollar to a trust fund for my son. When you're done, hand her over to the cartel she tried to frame. Let them handle her."
"No! Vincent, please! They'll kill me!" Sophia screamed like a feral animal, kicking and thrashing wildly.
