Chapter 4 - The Miracle Rhythm

The luxurious dining room fell into a breathless, suffocating silence. The only sound echoing through the tension was the steady, rhythmic tapping of the silver spoon.

Tink... tink... tink...

Ellie didn't break eye contact with the twins. Her slow eye movement tracked every single twitch of their tiny muscles.

Seconds felt like agonizing hours. Damien squeezed his eyes shut, praying to a God he had long abandoned.

Then, the miracle happened.

The terrifying, jerky movements of the twins slowly began to organize. The violent convulsions rippling through their cream-colored onesies softened. Their tiny, panicked eyes fluttered open, locking directly onto the shiny silver spoon and the steady, predictable rhythm it created.

The sensory reset worked. The chaotic electrical storm in their brains found the rhythm and stabilized.

Simultaneously, both babies took massive, deep, natural breaths. The terrifying blue tint on their lips instantly began to fade back into a healthy, rosy pink. They slumped weakly but safely against their father's chest, their natural breathing syncing perfectly with Damien’s deep exhales.

Damien opened his eyes. He looked down at his sons, then slowly raised his head to look at the 26-year-old waitress in the pink retro uniform.

The terrifying, ruthless mafia boss looked at Ellie in absolute, breathless awe. The lethal edge in his eyes was completely gone, replaced by overwhelming, profound gratitude.

"You saved them," Damien whispered, his deep voice cracking with heavy emotion.

👉 The babies were safe, but Ellie was about to touch an object that would turn the room into a warzone.
