Chapter 7 - The Eyes of a Traitor

Ellie slowly raised her head.
She looked past Damien’s broad, tattooed shoulders. Her eyes bypassed the terrified wealthy guests and the shattered crystal. She looked directly into the shadows near the exit.
She locked eyes with the trusted guard in the sharp black suit. The exact same man who had violently grabbed her arm to prevent her from reaching the seizing babies. He hadn't been trying to protect the boss. He had been trying to buy the poison enough time to finish its lethal job.
The guard’s confident posture instantly shattered under Ellie’s piercing gaze. He realized the waitress had figured it out. He took a subtle, panicked step backward.
"Someone poisoned them," Ellie said, her voice deadly quiet, echoing with terrifying clarity.
Damien didn't ask who. He saw the exact direction Ellie was staring.
With slow, terrifyingly robotic precision, Damien turned his head to follow her gaze. His eyes landed squarely on the guard. The overwhelming gratitude that had filled the mafia boss’s face just moments ago was violently erased. His features shifted into a mask of pure, murderous rage. The monster of Chicago had awakened.
