Chapter 5 - The Deadly Residue

Ellie let out a long, shaky breath, her shoulders dropping in sheer relief. She placed the silver spoon back onto the table.

"They need to be checked by a neurologist immediately," Ellie advised softly, her intense focus finally softening. "But the immediate danger is over. They are stable."

Damien nodded, pressing his face gently against his sons' heads.

Ellie reached out to grab the babies' milk bottle resting near the shattered pink floral centerpiece, intending to pack it away for them. Her fingers wrapped around the warm plastic.

Suddenly, her relieved expression instantly collapsed.

Ellie froze. Her heart slammed against her ribs. She carefully pulled the bottle closer to her face, rubbing her thumb slowly over the silicone nipple. A strange, slightly gritty powdery residue came off on her skin. It was barely visible, disguised perfectly against the milky texture.

It wasn't formula.

The chilling realization violently washed over her. The violent seizures, the rapid asphyxiation, the synchronized timing. This wasn't a random pediatric medical emergency.

Ellie’s hands began shaking uncontrollably. She looked at the lethal mafia boss kneeling in front of her.

"Mr. Moretti..." Ellie whispered, her voice trembling with sheer, unfiltered terror. She held the tainted baby bottle out toward him. "...this wasn't a seizure."

👉 Ellie had just diagnosed a murder attempt, and the invisible assassin was still trapped in the room with them.
