Chapter 6 - The Invisible Assassin

Damien’s eyes darted from his sons to the baby bottle trembling in Ellie’s hand.
"What are you talking about?" Damien asked, his voice dropping an octave, the heavy, lethal authority of the underworld kingpin slowly returning to his tone.
"This powder," Ellie stammered, wiping her thumb on her white apron to get the residue off her skin. "It’s a synthetic neuro-stimulant. It forces the nervous system into overdrive until the heart stops. It’s... it’s poison. Someone rubbed it directly onto the nipple of the bottle while they were preparing the table."
The air in the private dining room turned to absolute ice.
Damien’s chest stopped moving. He slowly looked around the room. The heavy oak doors were heavily guarded. The entire restaurant had been locked down the second the babies started choking. No one had entered or exited.
The person who tried to murder his infant sons was standing in this exact room.
"No one touched that bottle," Damien growled, his jaw clenching so tight the muscles ticked under his stubble. "Only my inner circle was allowed near this table."
Ellie’s mind raced. She thought back to the chaos. She thought back to the moment she tried to run forward to save the babies, and the one person who had used physical force to stop her.
