Chapter 1 - The Unwanted Child

The bright, natural daylight illuminated the sunny courtyard of the St. Jude Orphanage. A gravel path wound through lush green grass and blooming white and blue flowers, leading up to a grand, intimidating stone building. It was Adoption Day, a chaotic, emotional event where wealthy couples mingled on the lawn, hoping to find the perfect addition to their perfect lives.

But standing far away from the celebrating crowds was Mrs. Kettering. She was the middle-aged orphanage director, wearing an elegant light blue dress, her blonde hair styled in a tight, nervous updo. Her hands were clasped so tightly together that her knuckles were entirely white.

Standing right beside her was Dominic Moretti.

He was a terrifyingly massive man in his late thirties. He wore a sharp, perfectly tailored black suit, a black dress shirt, a black silk tie, and an incredibly expensive silver watch. His short black hair and the dark, intricate tattoos visible on his neck and hands made it explicitly clear that he didn't belong at a charity event. He was the undisputed boss of the city's criminal syndicate, a man who radiated absolute, lethal authority.

"Mr. Moretti, please," Mrs. Kettering whispered nervously, her eyes darting toward the edge of the courtyard. "Families find her condition difficult. She requires twenty-four-hour care, and she hasn't spoken a single word in two years. I can show you the healthy infants inside."

Dominic didn't look at the director. A tight close-up captured his stoic, intimidating face shifting into a cold, quiet, and terrifyingly resolute expression.

"Did anyone bother asking what she wants?" Dominic stated, his voice a freezing, lethal frequency that completely paralyzed the director.

👉 Dominic left the terrified woman behind, completely unaware that the little girl in the wheelchair held the key to his entire empire.
