Chapter 4 - The Director's Interference

Dominic stood up from the grass, his massive frame towering over the wheelchair. He turned back toward the stone building, intending to march into the main office and sign whatever legal paperwork was required to permanently remove Lily from the state system.

But before he could take a single step, Mrs. Kettering rushed across the lawn, frantically waving her manicured hands. Standing directly behind the director was a wealthy, arrogant-looking couple in expensive designer clothing.

"Mr. Moretti, stop right there!" Mrs. Kettering gasped, physically stepping between the mafia boss and the little girl. "You cannot simply take a child! There are strict federal protocols! And besides, Lily is already spoken for!"

Dominic stopped. The warm, gentle father figure instantly evaporated, violently replaced by the cold, terrifying kingpin.

"Spoken for?" Dominic asked, his voice dropping into a freezing, lethal frequency.

"Yes," Mrs. Kettering stammered, gesturing to the wealthy couple behind her. "Mr. and Mrs. Vance have already filed the preliminary adoption paperwork for Lily this morning. They are highly respected, elite members of society with a massive medical trust fund."

Dominic’s sharp, calculating eyes locked onto the wealthy couple. They didn't look like loving parents. The woman was staring at Lily’s worn floral dress with pure, unfiltered disgust, and the man was nervously checking his luxury watch.

"Why do you want a disabled six-year-old?" Dominic asked the man directly, his voice completely devoid of human emotion.

"That is absolutely none of your business," Mr. Vance sneered arrogantly, trying to project fake authority. "We are providing charity to a broken child. Now step away from our daughter."

👉 Dominic’s jaw clenched, completely aware that the wealthy couple was hiding a massive, multi-million-dollar secret.
