Chapter 3 - The Promise

A tight close-up captured Lily sitting alone in her black wheelchair.
She hugged her stuffed animal tighter, burying her small chin into the bear’s fur. Her wide, hesitant, and slightly frightened eyes tracked the massive, tattooed man in the black suit as he stopped directly in front of her. She had seen the wealthy couples look at her with pity and disgust all day, quickly turning away when they saw her wheelchair. She expected this terrifying man to do the exact same thing.
But Dominic didn't turn away.
A medium close-up captured Dominic slowly crouching down on one knee right in front of Lily’s wheelchair, completely ruining his expensive suit pants in the damp grass. He brought himself directly down to her eye level. The cold, lethal, apex-predator mask he wore for the world completely melted away. His hard, tattooed face softened into an incredibly gentle, vulnerable expression.
"Hello, princess," Dominic whispered softly, his deep voice carrying a profound, undeniable warmth.
Lily’s eyes widened in sheer surprise. No one had ever called her that except her father.
"You probably don't remember me," Dominic continued, gently resting his large, tattooed hand on the armrest of her wheelchair, carefully avoiding touching her so she wouldn't feel trapped. "I'm Dominic. Your daddy was my absolute best friend in the entire world. And I am so, so sorry it took me this long to find you."
Lily stared at him. She didn't speak, but a single, silent tear rolled down her pale cheek.
May you like
"You don't ever have to speak if you don't want to," Dominic promised, wiping the tear away with incredible gentleness. "But you are never, ever going to sit in the shadows again. I am taking you home."
👉 Dominic stood up, preparing to legally adopt the little girl, but the orphanage director was about to make a catastrophic mistake.
