Chapter 3 - The Knowing Child

A tight, cinematic close-up focused on Lily’s face.

The playful, teasing smile completely faded from the eight-year-old’s features. She didn't look surprised. She didn't gasp or cheer for the paralyzed man. Instead, she looked directly down at his moving foot with an incredibly calm, deeply knowing expression that a child her age had absolutely no business possessing.

"Do it again," Lily stated, her voice completely steady, carrying a strange, commanding authority.

Caleb’s heart hammered violently against his ribs. An extreme close-up captured his dark eyes widening with a chilling mix of desperate hope and deep, unsettling dread. He looked at the little girl, completely paralyzed by the realization that she had fully expected his foot to move all along.

"How do you know?" Caleb asked, his voice shaking, completely stripped of his untouchable mafia boss persona.

Lily didn't answer. She reached into the pocket of her pink tweed jacket and pulled out a small, crumpled piece of paper. She handed it directly to Caleb.

"Mommy told me to play the music loud so the men in the suits wouldn't hear," Lily whispered softly. "She said if your foot moved, I had to give you this. But if it didn't move, we had to run."

Caleb snatched the paper with trembling hands. He unfolded it.

It wasn't a child's drawing. It was a highly encrypted, alphanumeric banking code. And at the bottom, written in a handwriting that made Caleb’s blood turn to absolute ice, were four words:

The paralysis is fake.

👉 Caleb stared at the note, and the horrific, apocalyptic betrayal of his last two years was finally brought into the light.
