Chapter 4 - The Poisoned King

To understand the absolute, suffocating terror consuming Caleb’s mind, you had to understand how he ended up in the black metal wheelchair.
Two years ago, Caleb had been caught in a brutal explosion at a cartel warehouse. He survived, but his personal physician, Dr. Aris Vance, had gravely informed him that his lower spine was completely severed. Dr. Vance was Caleb’s most trusted friend. He had moved into the estate, managing Caleb’s daily medications, physical therapy, and pain management.
Caleb had spent two agonizing years believing he was permanently broken.
He stared at the note in his trembling hands. The handwriting belonged to Elena—his beautiful fiancée who had mysteriously vanished three days after the explosion. Dr. Vance had told Caleb that Elena couldn't handle being married to a "cripple" and had run away with his money.
"Where did you get this?" Caleb growled, grabbing the armrests of his wheelchair, his knuckles turning white.
"My mom is the new night nurse," Jason, the older brother, finally spoke up, his voice cracking with pure fear. "She cleans the basement medical wing. She found a lady locked in the old storage room. The lady gave her the paper."
Caleb’s entire universe violently shattered.
Elena hadn't run away. She had been locked in his own basement for two years.

Dr. Vance hadn't been treating a severed spine. He had been intentionally, methodically poisoning Caleb with heavy paralytic neurotoxins every single morning, keeping the mafia boss trapped in a wheelchair so the doctor could secretly drain the syndicate’s offshore accounts while acting as his proxy.
👉 Caleb realized the monster was living in his house, and the executioner officially woke up.
