Chapter 7 - The Doctor's Return

"Well. It seems the night nurse is going to need to be replaced."
The smooth, arrogant voice echoed from the hallway.
Caleb slowly turned his head. Standing in the doorway of the cell was Dr. Aris Vance. He was wearing a pristine white medical coat over his expensive suit, holding a silver tray with a syringe filled with the paralytic toxin.
Dr. Vance didn't look terrified. He looked deeply annoyed. He clearly hadn't heard the gunshots over the sound of the estate's heavy machinery.
"I must admit, Caleb, I underestimated your metabolism," Dr. Vance sighed, setting the tray down on a sterile metal table. "I thought skipping one morning dose wouldn't give you enough motor function to stand. But no matter. You're still weak. You can't even walk back up those stairs."
Dr. Vance pulled a suppressed pistol from his coat pocket, aiming it directly at Caleb’s chest.
"It's a shame," Dr. Vance smiled cruelly. "The syndicate was running so smoothly with you confined to that chair. I drained forty million dollars into my Cayman accounts. I was going to leave the country tomorrow. Now, I suppose I'll just have to report that the tragic boss and his missing fiancée were killed in a murder-suicide."
"You took two years of my life," Caleb whispered, his voice vibrating with absolute, merciless authority.

"And now I'm taking the rest of it," Dr. Vance sneered, his finger tightening on the trigger.
👉 Dr. Vance thought he had the upper hand, but he had entirely forgotten who actually ruled the estate.
