Chapter 5 - The Awakening

The cinematic realism of Caleb’s profound, apocalyptic rage was suffocating.
He didn't scream. He didn't order his guards to tear the house apart. He looked down at his right foot. Without the morning dose of Dr. Vance’s "pain medication"—which the doctor had skipped today because he was supposedly picking up new supplies—the paralytic poison was finally wearing off.
Caleb focused every single ounce of his immense, terrifying willpower.
Slowly, agonizingly, his left foot shifted. Then, his calf muscles tightened. Fire and agonizing pins and needles shot up his spine, but it was the most beautiful pain he had ever felt.
He placed his heavy, tattooed hands on the armrests of the wheelchair.
His two bodyguards, completely unaware of the conspiracy, watched in absolute, breathless shock as the boss who hadn't stood in two years slowly, violently pushed himself upward.
Caleb stood to his full, towering height. His legs were shaking, weak from muscle atrophy, but he was standing. The apex predator of the city had completely broken his chains.
He looked down at Lily and Jason.
"Take the children to the secure panic room," Caleb commanded his lead guard, his voice dropping into a lethal, demonic register. "Lock the door. Do not let anyone in."
"Boss, you're walking..." the guard stammered in shock.

"I'm not walking," Caleb replied coldly, pulling a heavy black handgun from his shoulder holster. "I'm going hunting."
👉 Caleb moved toward the basement, preparing to unleash hell on the man who stole his life.
