Chapter 3 - The Traitorous Fiancée

"What is the hired help doing in your bed, Dante?"

Stepping into the master suite was Camilla. She was the daughter of a powerful New York crime family, and officially, she was Dante’s arranged fiancée. She wore a stunning crimson silk dress, her perfectly contoured face twisted into a mask of pure, toxic disgust.

Dante completely ignored her. He carefully adjusted my pillows. "Harper is staying here under full protection. Do not disturb her."

Dante turned and walked out of the room to coordinate the massive cartel war that had just been ignited, leaving me alone with the woman who despised my existence.

The second the heavy doors closed, Camilla’s arrogant facade dropped. She walked over to my bed, her heels clicking aggressively against the hardwood floor.

"You really think you're special, don't you?" Camilla hissed venomously, leaning over me.

"Leave me alone, Camilla," I whispered, my ribs aching with every breath.

Camilla smiled cruelly. She reached out and violently pressed her manicured fingers directly into my bruised shoulder. I gasped in sheer agony.

"You're nothing but a pathetic, disposable secretary," Camilla sneered, her eyes burning with pure hatred. "Do you want to know a secret, Harper? The rival cartel didn't just guess your schedule. They didn't magically know which alley you'd be walking down at 2:00 AM."

My blood turned to absolute, freezing ice.

"I gave them your route," Camilla confessed, a demonic, victorious smirk spreading across her face. "I saw the diamond ring in Dante's safe. I knew he was planning to break our engagement for a peasant. So I made a deal with his enemies. They get the south ports, and they permanently erase you from his life."

👉 Camilla thought she had completely destroyed me, but she had absolutely no idea why the cartel actually took my laptop.
