Chapter 5 - The Hostage

Camilla physically staggered backward, her jaw dropping in absolute, humiliating horror.

"You're lying!" she shrieked hysterically, completely abandoning her high-society persona. "You're just a stupid secretary! You don't know how to code a virus!"

At that exact second, the heavy oak doors of the master suite burst open.

Dante stormed into the room. His unbuttoned black shirt was clinging to his broad shoulders, and his dark eyes were burning with an apocalyptic, terrifying triumph.

"The rival cartel's servers just completely melted down," Dante announced, his voice echoing with absolute authority. "They just lost fifty million dollars, and we have their exact location. Harper, you brilliant, beautiful genius, you completely destroyed them."

Camilla’s blood ran completely cold. She looked at Dante, then looked at me. She realized she was standing in the middle of a burning bridge, entirely exposed.

Driven by pure, animalistic desperation, Camilla reached into her crimson silk dress and pulled out a small, pearl-handled revolver.

Before Dante could react, Camilla lunged across the bed and jammed the cold barrel of the gun directly against my bruised temple.

"Nobody move!" Camilla screamed, her hand trembling violently.

Dante froze. The towering, untouchable mafia boss stopped dead in his tracks, his heart hammering against his ribs as he watched the woman he hated hold a weapon to the woman he loved.

"Camilla," Dante growled softly, a dark, demonic promise of violence vibrating in his tone. "Take the gun away from her head."

"She ruined everything!" Camilla wept hysterically, tears ruining her expensive makeup. "I'm going to blow her brains out, Dante! Back away from the door and let me walk out of here, or she dies!"

👉 Camilla thought she had the ultimate leverage, but she was entirely blind to the apex predator's lethal speed.
