Chapter 9 - The Reclaimed Family

"Emily," Dominic whispered, his deep voice shaking with absolute, undeniable love. "Where is your mommy?"

Emily smiled a bright, beautiful smile. She pointed her tiny finger toward the massive mahogany doors at the back of the ballroom.

Stepping completely out of the shadows was Sophia.

She was a beautiful thirty-something woman wearing a simple, faded coat, but she radiated absolute, undeniable strength. She had survived the catastrophic fire, fiercely protected her daughter in the shadows for eight brutal years, and brilliantly executed a flawless trap to completely destroy the monster who tried to kill them.

"Dom," Sophia whispered softly, tears of pure, unadulterated relief washing down her face.

Dominic let out a heartbreaking sob. He sprinted across the polished marble floor and violently wrapped his arms around his younger sister, burying his face in her shoulder. They wept together, mourning the years they had lost, but celebrating the absolute, undeniable victory of the present.

Dominic pulled back and looked down at Emily.

He gently scooped the eight-year-old girl into his arms, holding her securely against his expensive cream-colored suit.
