Chapter 4 - The Vintage Lunchbox

"Give me the box!" Margaret roared aggressively, her yellow gown swishing as she aggressively lunged forward across the mahogany table. She desperately tried to snatch the lunchbox right out of the little girl's hands.

But Dominic moved with the crushing, undeniable authority of a true apex predator. He violently grabbed Margaret by the wrist, stopping her dead in her tracks with bone-crushing force.

"If you touch her, I will break your arm," Dominic commanded smoothly, his deep voice dropping to a freezing, lethal frequency that completely sucked the air out of the ballroom.

Margaret let out a pathetic whimper, violently yanking her wrist away and stumbling backward.

Dominic knelt down directly in front of the eight-year-old girl. He didn't look like a terrifying mafia boss. He looked at Emily with profound, overwhelming gentleness.

"Can I see what's inside, sweetheart?" Dominic asked softly.

Emily nodded bravely. She unlatched the heavy metal clasp of the vintage lunchbox and opened the lid.

Inside the box wasn't a sandwich or a toy. It was a heavy, perfectly preserved digital hard drive, wrapped carefully in a fireproof document bag.

Vincent, the sixty-something corporate lawyer, let out a horrific, high-pitched gasp of pure, unadulterated terror. He physically collapsed to his knees on the marble floor, completely destroying his expensive dark blue suit.

"Vincent, shut up!" Margaret shrieked hysterically, realizing her entire fifty-million-dollar empire was completely collapsing into dust.

👉 Dominic pulled the hard drive from the lunchbox, instantly realizing his sister had never died in the fire.
