Chapter 2 - The Socialite's Panic

The cinematic realism of the suffocating, heavy tension completely electrified the grand ballroom.
A tight close-up focused entirely on Margaret. The beautiful, arrogant socialite physically staggered backward in her yellow gown. Her smug smile violently vanished. She slapped her manicured hand over her mouth, her eyes widening in sheer, breathless terror as she stared at the burned white card in the little girl's hand.
"My mommy told me to give it to you," Emily stated bravely, her tiny voice echoing across the dead-silent room.
Dominic physically stopped breathing. The warm ballroom lighting suddenly felt incredibly heavy.
To understand the absolute, bone-chilling horror freezing the blood in Dominic’s veins, one had to look back exactly three years ago. Dominic’s younger sister, Sophia, had died in a massive, devastating house fire. The police had ruled it a tragic electrical accident. Sophia had been pregnant at the time, leaving Dominic completely shattered and entirely alone to run the family syndicate.
Because Sophia was legally dead, Margaret, her former business partner, had aggressively petitioned the courts to absorb Sophia's multi-million-dollar real estate shares. Dominic was sitting at the table today to finally sign those massive shares completely over to Margaret.
But the burned white card Emily was holding wasn't just a random piece of trash.

It was a highly specific, custom-embossed syndicate security card. It was the exact security card Sophia had carried in her wallet the night she allegedly burned to death.
👉 Dominic slowly lowered his gold pen, entirely ready to unleash absolute hell on the elegant ballroom.
