Chapter 8 - The Frantic Phone Call

Diane dialed Rachel’s number, her manicured hands shaking violently.

She expected Rachel to answer with a meek, submissive apology. She fully expected her daughter to immediately fix the terrifying financial glitch.

Rachel answered on the second ring. She was sitting in her warm, bright office, looking out over the city skyline.

"Rachel! Thank God!" Diane shrieked hysterically through the speaker. "The bank made a massive mistake! The power is off, and they sent a foreclosure notice! You need to call your trust manager right now and fix this!"

Rachel took a slow, elegant sip of her tea. Her facial micro-expressions projected a chilling, untouchable power.

"The bank didn't make a mistake, Diane," Rachel replied softly, her voice completely devoid of any human empathy.

Diane physically staggered backward, leaning against the cold, dead granite countertop. "What? What are you talking about?"

"I canceled the payments," Rachel stated clinically, cutting through the freezing air of the suburban house. "I own that property, Diane. For five years, I paid for the roof over your head. I paid for the electricity you used to cook that prime rib. And you used my house to tell my daughter she wasn't welcome."

"You can't do this!" Diane wailed, completely abandoning her arrogant facade. "We are your parents! Where are we supposed to go?!"

"That sounds like a personal problem," Rachel whispered smoothly.

👉 Diane desperately tried to play her final card, but Rachel was about to crush her golden child illusion.
