Chapter 2 - The Lethal Syringe

Dominic’s tattooed hand gripped the handle of a suppressed pistol hidden beneath his dark sheets. He aimed it directly at my chest.
"I don't know how you got past my security," Dominic growled, struggling to keep his heavy weapon steady as blood seeped through his bandages, "but if you take one more step, it’s your last."
I didn't raise my hands. I slowly knelt down and unzipped my wet canvas duffel bag.
"Your security didn't stop me because your brother, Vincent, personally escorted me through the back gates," I stated smoothly.
Dominic froze. The mention of his trusted younger brother made his dark eyes narrow. "Vincent sent a nurse?"
"Vincent didn't send a nurse," I corrected, pulling a small, pre-filled glass syringe from my bag. The liquid inside was cloudy and thick. "Vincent sent an assassin."
The cinematic tension in the dark room spiked to an apocalyptic level.
I held the syringe up so the thin strip of daylight caught the glass. "This is a concentrated dose of potassium chloride. Your brother paid me one hundred thousand dollars to inject this into your IV line. It will cause a massive, untraceable cardiac arrest. He told the guards I was here to administer painkillers. When you die, he takes over the Rossi syndicate."
Dominic’s breath completely hitched. The profound, suffocating realization of his own blood's betrayal hit him harder than the bullet in his shoulder.
"Then why are you standing there talking?" Dominic whispered, his voice cracking with a dark, demonic rage. "Do it."
I looked the terrifying mafia boss dead in the eye.
