Chapter 7 - The Extraction

We drove to a highly secure, heavily fortified safehouse on the outskirts of the city.
Dominic didn't rest. He didn't take painkillers. He sat at a steel table in the dark room, his bloody chest heaving, and opened an encrypted laptop. He made exactly three phone calls to his most fiercely loyal, hidden enforcers—the men who answered only to him, not to his brother.
"Vincent is holding a sixteen-year-old girl at the south side warehouse," Dominic commanded through the phone, his voice vibrating with absolute, demonic authority. "I want her extracted safely. And I want every single one of Vincent’s guards in that building permanently erased."
I sat across from him, my hands shaking uncontrollably as I waited for the call.
Exactly forty-five minutes later, the heavy steel door of the safehouse swung open.
My little sister, Mia, ran into the room, crying hysterically. I dropped to my knees, catching her in a desperate, crushing embrace, sobbing with pure, unadulterated relief.
Dominic’s lead enforcer stepped into the room, covered in rain and soot. "The girl is safe, Boss. The warehouse is completely burned to the ground. Vincent's men are gone."
I looked up at Dominic. The fearsome mafia boss was watching us, his hardened eyes softening for a fraction of a second. He had kept his vow. He had saved my family.
"Thank you," I whispered, tears streaming down my face.
Dominic stood up, buttoning a fresh, black dress shirt over his bandages.

"Your part is done, Nora," Dominic said smoothly, slipping a heavy handgun into his shoulder holster. "Keep your sister here. It's time for me to handle my family."
