Chapter 5 - The Snake in the House

Vincent kept his fingers pressed against Dominic’s neck for ten agonizing seconds. Thanks to the beta-blockers, the pulse was terrifyingly faint.
Vincent finally pulled his hand away and let out a dark, booming laugh.
"The king is dead," Vincent announced smoothly.
Chloe immediately threw her arms around Vincent’s neck, kissing her dead fiancé's brother passionately right over the bloody mattress.
"Finally," Chloe whispered, pulling back with a cruel smirk. "I spent two years playing the devoted little house-wife for this arrogant monster. Do you know how exhausting it was to pretend I loved him?"
Beneath the sheets, Dominic lay completely paralyzed, forced to listen to the two people he trusted most in the world desecrate his life. His own brother had ordered the hit, and his fiancée had orchestrated the betrayal.
"Go to the safe behind the painting, Chloe," Vincent ordered, tossing her a set of keys. "Empty the offshore ledgers and the diamonds before his loyalists realize what happened. I'll go call the cartel and inform them of my tragic succession."
Vincent turned to me, his eyes entirely devoid of mercy.
"You did well, nurse," Vincent sneered. "Wait in the kitchen. I'll have my men bring your sister to the drop point."
It was a blatant lie. I saw the micro-expression of murder in his eyes. He was going to execute me the second I stepped out of the room to tie up loose ends.
Vincent and Chloe walked out of the master suite, leaving the doors cracked open.
