Chapter 3 - The Hostage Sister

"Because I'm not a murderer," I said coldly, kicking the shattered glass aside. "And because I need a favor."
I reached back into my duffel bag, pulling out sterile bandages, a surgical kit, and a bottle of medical-grade alcohol. I walked directly toward the barrel of his loaded gun, completely fearless, and pushed the weapon down with my bare hand.
"Who are you?" Dominic asked, completely stunned by my absolute audacity.
"My name is Nora Hayes," I replied, snapping on a pair of latex gloves. "I'm a trauma nurse. And Vincent didn't just offer me money to kill you. He kidnapped my sixteen-year-old sister, Mia. He has her locked in a warehouse on the south side. If I don't walk out of this room and confirm you are dead, he will kill her."
Dominic’s jaw locked. The muscles ticked violently beneath his pale skin. He looked at me, seeing a desperate, fiercely protective woman who had walked straight into a mafia stronghold to save her family.
"This is going to hurt," I warned, tearing open a suture packet. "I don't have anesthesia."
"Do it," Dominic gritted his teeth.
For the next twenty minutes, I brutally dug the shattered bullet fragments out of his shoulder. Dominic didn't scream. He gripped the heavy oak headboard so tightly the wood cracked under his fingers.
When I finally tied off the last stitch, his chest was heaving, covered in fresh sweat.
He looked up at me, his dark eyes burning with a newfound, terrifying clarity.

"Keep me alive, Nora," Dominic vowed, his voice a low, lethal rumble. "Play his game. And I swear on my life, I will burn the city to the ground to bring your sister home."
👉 I finished wrapping his shoulder, but heavy footsteps approaching the bedroom door meant the deadliest performance of our lives was about to begin.
