Chapter 2 - The Red Silk Disguise

To understand the absolute, chaotic terror on the cliffside, you had to rewind to the glittering lights of the city's most exclusive luxury gala.

Three hours earlier, Cara wasn't covered in mud. She was a waitress at the Obsidian Room, wearing a pristine, high-end red silk uniform gown, carrying a silver tray of champagne. She was working a grueling double shift to pay for her younger brother Tommy’s auto mechanic tuition.

Dante, the undisputed king of the city's underworld, was hosting a massive syndicate merger in the private VIP lounge.

Cara was standing out of sight, quietly polishing glasses near the heavy velvet curtains of the private balcony, when she overheard a conversation that made her blood turn to absolute ice.

Standing in the shadows of the balcony was Elena, Dante’s stunning, arrogant fiancée, and Marcus, Dante's trusted right-hand underboss.

"The brake lines are completely severed," Marcus whispered, pulling a burner phone from his tailored tuxedo. "The mechanic just confirmed it. Once Dante drives up the mountain pass to the secure compound, the car will accelerate into the ravine. The crash will look entirely like a tragic weather accident."

"And the mechanic?" Elena asked, her voice dripping with toxic, venomous cruelty.

"Taken care of," Marcus smirked. "He was a kid. He thought he was just doing a repair. My men put two bullets in his chest the second he finished cutting the line. We leave no witnesses."

Cara’s serving tray slipped from her hands, clattering loudly against the hardwood floor.

Tommy. Her little brother Tommy was the mechanic they had hired for the VIP garage downstairs.

Elena and Marcus violently snapped their heads toward the curtain. Cara didn't wait for them to draw their weapons. She abandoned the tray and sprinted out of the service corridor, her mind completely shattered by grief and sheer, unadulterated panic.

👉 Cara knew she had to warn the mafia boss before he got into the car, but the wicked fiancée was already setting a trap.
