Chapter 3 - The Ghost from the Past

Vincent’s sharp gaze snapped to the ten-year-old girl. "Where?"

Leah wrapped her arms around her dark navy blue coat, shivering despite the warmth of the first-class cabin.

"The night my mother was taken," Leah cried softly. "Three weeks ago. Men broke into our house. They grabbed her. Before they dragged her into the van, one of the men dropped his jacket. I found that exact same black disc in the pocket."

The cabin fell dead silent. The baby’s cries had finally reduced to quiet sniffles, but the tension in the room skyrocketed.

Vincent’s jaw clenched tight. The men who had kidnapped Leah’s mother belonged to the Barone syndicate—his most ruthless, bloodthirsty rivals. They were the reason Vincent was taking Leah away to a safe house.

If a Barone tracker was on this plane, it meant the rival syndicate knew exactly where Vincent was taking his son. It meant they were flying directly into an ambush.

"Someone on my payroll planted this," Vincent stated, his brilliant mind racing. "Someone in my inner circle put this on my son."

He turned his piercing eyes toward the back of the cabin.

Sitting in the corner, clutching a baby bottle, was Chloe. She was the infant's newly hired, highly recommended private nanny.

Chloe’s face was completely pale. She stood up quickly, her hands shaking.

"Mr. Moretti," Chloe stammered, taking a step backward. "I... I swear I didn't see anyone approach the baby at the terminal!"
