Chapter 7 - The Extraction

Chloe looked up at the little girl, her eyes filled with spite.
"I don't know where she is!" Chloe spat. "I'm just a nanny! They don't tell me where they keep the hostages!"
Vincent reached out and picked up the tiny black tracking disc from the table. He turned it over in his hand, observing the microscopic serial number printed on the back.
"These devices run on a closed-loop frequency," Vincent noted calmly. "They only transmit to a paired receiver. Which means whoever is monitoring this bug has the receiver on them."
He looked down at Chloe. "Where is your phone?"
"I don't have one!" Chloe panicked.
Vincent didn't bother arguing. He nodded to his lead guard. The massive man stepped forward and aggressively patted down Chloe's coat, pulling a burner phone from her hidden inner pocket.
Vincent took the phone and unlocked it. He opened the tracking app, which was pinging a specific, remote location on the outskirts of the city.
"This is the receiver's location," Vincent said, showing the map to Leah. "They are holding her at the old shipyard."
Leah’s eyes filled with tears of profound relief. She looked up at Vincent, her lip trembling. "Will you save her?"
Vincent looked at the brave ten-year-old girl who had just saved his infant son's life by noticing a single detail. He owed her a debt that money could never repay.
