Chapter 9 - The Reunion

The first-class cabin doors opened, letting the crisp, fresh air flood the tense room.
Guards hauled a weeping, defeated Chloe down the stairs, handing her directly over to waiting federal agents. Her life was officially over.
Vincent gently took his baby boy back into his arms. The infant was finally resting peacefully, completely safe from the danger that had hovered over him just an hour ago.
Vincent walked down the airstrip stairs, with little Leah following closely behind him in her navy blue coat.
A black armored SUV pulled up to the tarmac. The back door opened.
Maria stepped out. She looked exhausted and bruised, but the moment her eyes locked onto the tiny girl in the blue coat, her face lit up with the brightness of a thousand suns.
"Leah!" Maria cried out, falling to her knees on the tarmac.
"Mommy!" Leah screamed, sprinting across the runway.
The two violently collided, wrapping their arms around each other in a fierce, unbreakable embrace. They wept uncontrollably, burying their faces in each other's shoulders, three weeks of agonizing separation finally over.
Vincent stood by the plane, rocking his son, watching the beautiful reunion. The exhaustion on his face slowly melted away, replaced by a profound, quiet peace.
