Chapter 4 - The Nanny's Lie

Vincent slowly handed the baby to his lead bodyguard. He stood up from the cream leather seat, his imposing, muscular frame towering in the aisle. He walked slowly toward Chloe.

"You didn't see anyone?" Vincent asked, his voice deceptively calm.

"No, sir!" Chloe pleaded, her eyes darting nervously toward the locked cabin doors. "I had him wrapped in his blanket the entire time in the VIP lounge! Someone must have bumped into me and slipped it in! It wasn't me!"

Leah stepped out into the aisle. She looked at Chloe. The ten-year-old girl possessed an incredible, survival-honed intuition.

"She’s lying," Leah said clearly.

Chloe gasped, turning a venomous glare toward the little girl. "Shut your mouth, you little brat! I would never put a baby in danger!"

"You're wearing a long-sleeved shirt," Leah pointed out, her brown hair falling over her shoulders. "But when you reached for the bottle just now, your sleeve pulled up. I saw it."

Vincent didn't take his eyes off Chloe. "Saw what, Leah?"

"A tattoo on her wrist," Leah said, her voice shaking but brave. "A red snake. The man who grabbed my mother... he had the exact same tattoo on his neck."

Chloe’s breath hitched. She instinctively grabbed her own wrist, realizing her fatal mistake. She had concealed her syndicate ink perfectly during her job interview, but she had slipped up under pressure.
