Chapter 6 - The Mother-in-Law's Trap

Three hours later, the heavy, polished mahogany doors of Marnie Sterling’s elite country club violently swung open.

Marnie, a woman in her late sixties dripping in diamonds and old-money arrogance, was sitting at a VIP table, drinking expensive champagne with her high-society friends. She completely froze as a massive, towering shadow fell over her table.

Brett stood perfectly still in his tailored navy suit. Four heavily armed, massive private security guards flanked him, completely neutralizing the country club's pathetic staff.

"Brett?" Marnie gasped, her powdered face turning violently pale. "What is the meaning of this? You are interrupting my luncheon!"

"Where is my wife, Marnie?" Brett asked softly, his voice dropping to a freezing, lethal frequency that completely silenced the wealthy room.

Marnie’s crystal champagne glass violently trembled. "Sarah is dead! You buried her five years ago! You are having a psychotic break!"

Brett didn't argue. He pulled the dented gold locket from his pocket and dropped it heavily onto the pristine white tablecloth. The heavy clink sounded like a gunshot.

"I found Vera and Violet starving in a plaza this morning," Brett stated clinically, entirely devoid of human emotion. "They told me 'Aunt Marnie' threw them out on the street after they got too expensive to hide."

Marnie let out a horrific, high-pitched gasp of pure, unadulterated terror. The wealthy elites sitting at her table physically recoiled, staring at the older woman with pure, unfiltered disgust as her monstrous, unforgivable secret was publicly exposed.

"You have exactly ten seconds to tell me where Sarah is," Brett whispered, leaning directly over the table. "Or I will personally ensure you spend the rest of your miserable life rotting in a federal black site."

👉 Marnie began to hyperventilate, completely unaware that Brett had already destroyed her entire financial empire.
