Chapter 7 - The Rescue

"She's in a private facility!" Marnie wailed hysterically, completely abandoning her arrogant, untouchable persona as sheer panic took over. "Upstate! I told them she was mentally unstable! I just wanted to keep my bloodline away from you! Please, Brett, don't kill me!"

Brett didn't even blink. He looked at his lead security officer.

"Hand the audio recording of her confession over to the FBI," Brett commanded flawlessly. "And execute the hostile takeover of her estate. Leave her with absolutely nothing."

Marnie let out an apocalyptic shriek of pure terror as two federal agents, who had been waiting outside, marched into the country club. They aggressively grabbed the screaming, disgraced woman, snapping heavy steel handcuffs around her wrists in front of the entire elite society she used to rule.

Brett turned his back on his screaming mother-in-law and sprinted toward his black SUV.

Two hours later, Brett violently kicked open the doors of the corrupt, private psychiatric facility upstate. His heavily armed security team completely secured the building, pinning the bribed doctors to the floor.

Brett ran down the sterile white hallway, his heart hammering in his chest. He smashed the window of the locked door at the end of the hall and ripped it open.

Sitting by the window, looking frail but incredibly beautiful, was Sarah.

She turned her head, her stunning emerald-green eyes widening in absolute, breathless shock. She had spent five years locked in a drugged haze, completely convinced that Brett had abandoned her and that her babies were dead.

"Brett?" Sarah choked out, tears of pure, agonizing relief flooding her face.
