Chapter 1 - The Plaza Encounter

The bright, blinding sunlight of the upscale American city plaza reflected beautifully off the massive stone water fountain. Wealthy pedestrians in expensive designer clothing walked briskly across the cobblestone pavement, completely ignoring the desperate poverty hiding in the shadows of the luxury boutiques.
But Brett completely stopped walking.
Brett, a thirty-nine-year-old billionaire CEO, was a breathtakingly handsome man with dark, impeccably styled hair, wearing a flawlessly tailored navy blue suit and a dark tie. Yet, in this moment, the absolute, unyielding power he commanded in the boardroom entirely vanished.
A wide cinematic shot captured Brett dropping violently to one knee on the hard cobblestone, completely ruining his expensive suit pants. His heart hammered violently against his ribs, his breath catching in his throat as he stared in absolute, unadulterated shock.
Standing a few feet away was his five-year-old daughter, Valerie. She was a vision of innocent, untouchable wealth, with long curly blonde hair tied in a mint green bow, wearing an elaborate mint green floral dress, holding a small pearl purse.
Valerie was gently handing a wrapped sandwich from her lunchbox to two homeless little girls huddled by the fountain.
"Here," Valerie whispered sweetly, completely devoid of fear. "You look just like me."
The two homeless girls were barefoot, shivering, and covered in street dirt. They wore torn, faded dresses—one tan, one pink. But it wasn't their poverty that paralyzed the wealthy CEO.

It was their faces. The two barefoot girls possessed the exact, flawless, identical facial features of his five-year-old daughter.
👉 Brett stared into their eyes, entirely unaware that he was looking directly at the ghosts he had mourned for five years.
