Chapter 2 - The Mother's Fury

The cinematic realism of the suffocating, terrifying tension completely electrified the snowy courtyard.
Vivian violently wrapped her heavy burgundy coat around her shivering, bald three-year-old son, desperately trying to transfer her own body heat to his freezing skin. She looked down at the snow, her brown eyes widening in sheer, breathtaking horror as she recognized the dark clumps of hair scattered on the ground.
They weren't Toby's hair. Toby had lost all of his hair to aggressive chemotherapy exactly two months ago.
The hair in the snow was Vivian’s. It was the beautiful, expensive custom wig she had hand-sewn for Toby to play with so he wouldn't feel so insecure about his bald head.
"What did you do?!" Vivian roared aggressively, staring up at the cruel mother-in-law standing comfortably in the doorway. "He has leukemia! His immune system is completely destroyed! Are you trying to kill him?!"
Agnes didn't flinch. She scoffed loudly, dramatically rolling her eyes.
"Don't be so dramatic, Vivian," Agnes sneered coldly, ensuring her toxic voice echoed against the stone walls. "The child needs fresh air. And he needs to learn discipline."
A tight close-up captured Agnes glaring down at the weeping toddler with an unforgiving, harsh expression.
"He's a thief," Agnes stated clinically, pointing a heavily manicured finger directly at the three-year-old boy. "He snuck into my private study this morning and completely destroyed my antique diamond watch. He's a destructive little brat, and I won't have him running wild in my multi-million-dollar home."

Vivian physically stopped breathing. The freezing winter air suddenly felt incredibly heavy.
👉 Vivian knew her fragile son didn't have the strength to walk upstairs, realizing her mother-in-law was lying through her teeth.
