Chapter 7 - The Insurance Fraud

The heavy, toxic silence in the snowy courtyard was absolutely deafening.
Greg slowly lowered the smartphone. He didn't look at Vivian. He looked entirely at his wealthy, arrogant mother.
"You broke your own watch," Greg whispered, his deep voice cracking with sheer, undeniable disgust. "The watch that the insurance company appraised at exactly fifty thousand dollars."
Agnes physically stopped breathing.
To understand the absolute, unhinged depth of the mother-in-law's crime, one had to look at her bank accounts. Agnes wasn't a billionaire. She had secretly, aggressively gambled away the entire family fortune over the last three years. She was massively in debt to a ruthless corporate syndicate. She completely needed the fifty-thousand-dollar insurance payout from the broken watch just to keep her house.
But she also aggressively hated Vivian, so she maliciously framed the sick toddler to torture the poor mother at the same time.
"Greg, please!" Agnes sobbed violently, dropping to her knees in the doorway. She looked like a pathetic, cornered animal. "I had to do it! The bank is foreclosing on the estate tomorrow! If I didn't file the insurance claim, we would all be on the street!"
"So you locked my sick, freezing son in the snow to make it look believable?!" Greg roared aggressively, his chest heaving with absolute, demonic rage.
"I was just trying to save our family!" Agnes wailed hysterically.
