Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Checkmate

Greg pulled his own heavy, encrypted smartphone from his pocket.
"Greg, what are you doing?!" Agnes shrieked wildly, violently thrashing her hands as her entire high-society identity completely collapsed into dust.
"I'm calling the police," Greg commanded flawlessly, dialing the specific three digits. "And then I'm calling the insurance fraud division."
"No! You can't do this to me!" Agnes screamed, aggressively lunging forward into the snow. She desperately grabbed the hem of Greg’s expensive gray trousers. "I am your mother! I gave you everything! You can't send me to federal prison! I'll die in there!"
Greg forcefully kicked his leg, violently ripping his trousers out of her trembling hands.
"You should have thought about that before you put broken glass in my son's bed," Greg whispered coldly.
Heavy, wailing sirens aggressively shattered the quiet suburban morning. Greg hadn't just called the police; he had actively flagged down a passing patrol car right outside the massive iron gates before he pulled into the driveway.
Intense red and blue emergency lights violently illuminated the white snow. Four heavily armed police officers sprinted across the courtyard, entirely bypassing the furious husband and walking straight up to the weeping matriarch.
"Agnes Vance," the lead officer barked loudly.
