Chapter 5 - The Billion-Dollar Secret

Julian frowned, stepping forward aggressively. "Wipe that smile off your face, Clara. I told you to hand over the keys and get off my property."

"Your property?" Clara echoed, her voice completely steady.

For the entire duration of their marriage, Julian had lived in a delusion of grandeur. When they moved into this sprawling, multi-million-dollar brick estate three years ago, Julian had bragged to all of his friends and business partners that his startup had paid for it. He loved playing the role of the wealthy homeowner.

But Julian’s credit was completely destroyed. His startup was a financial black hole.

He had never actually read the closing documents. He had simply signed where the lawyers told him to sign, assuming his name was on the master deed as the primary breadwinner.

He had absolutely no idea that the house was entirely funded by an inheritance. Clara’s late Aunt Helen had passed away and left her massive estate exclusively to her niece, completely protected by an ironclad, irrevocable trust that insulated the asset from marital division.

Clara shifted Maya’s weight onto her hip, balancing her daughter perfectly.
